There are a number of foods, beverages, herbal products, and medications that may either increase or decrease the plasma concentration of CML tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). This applies to all currently approved CML treatments: Imatinib (Gleevec®), Dasatinib (Sprycel®), Nilotinib (Tasigna®), Bosutinib (Bosulif®), Ponatinib (Iclusig®), and Asciminib (Scemblix®).
Please download or view our updated 2025 Drug/Food Interaction Chart and bring it with you to your next appointment. If you have any concerns about possible interactions with medications, supplements, or foods you are currently taking, please make sure to discuss them with your hematologist or pharmacist.
We welcome your feedback! Please feel free to send us an email and let us know if and how this chart has helped you improve your communications with your healthcare team.
In addition to the interactions listed in the chart, please also be mindful of the following foods and beverages that may worsen GastroIntestinal (GI) side effects common to all CML TKIs :
- Spicy foods
- Chocolate
- Caffeine
- Citrus juice
- Dairy products
- Alcohol
- High-fat or fried foods
Every CML drug has a unique interaction profile. Some must be taken with food, others on an empty stomach, and several are affected by common supplements like St. John’s Wort, turmeric, or grapefruit juice. Always tell your entire healthcare team — including your pharmacist — about every medication, vitamin, herbal product, or natural health product you are taking.
